INTERVIEWS

I asked a few friends some questions about the pets they acquired over the course of the pandemic. While each of them had different things to say, one thing was common: their new pet has helped them through the pandemic. Below are some short blurbs I had them write for me, as well as pictures of the lovely beasties.

FRANK

Max got Frank in June of 2020

I got Frank at the beginning of summer in 2020. I was really starting to feel lonely and down as I live alone and had started to work remotely. I adopted Frank to stay active and have a companion. I’m not sure I would have had the time to adopt a dog without the extra free time and staying home to let it out. Frank is my little lifeline, and I couldn’t have made through so well without him.

LARRY

Katherine got Larry in February of 2021

When the pandemic started and a lot of my friends were doing quarantine, they started adopting new pets and that’s when I decided to adopt Larry my bearded Dragon. I had been wanting one for a while, looking at them in the pet store but the pandemic really pushed me to get him. I want to say that I would have gotten one eventually but I’m really glad I got him when I did. Taking care of him gives me purpose and I love coming home to see him.

WINIFRED

Savannah got Winifred in April of 2020

I had been bugging my now husband for months to get me a new kitten. My birthday was right before the pandemic started and I thought I’d be getting one then and I did not. A couple of months into quarantine in the beginning of 2020 I had started to look around on adopting a kitten and I found Winifred. My husband lovingly agreed that now was a good time to get a kitten as we had all the free time to watch and play with her. I don’t think we would have gotten her without the pandemic starting. She’s a little spit fire and she helped both my husband and I through with amusement and fun. Winifred is the best thing to come out of the pandemic for us.
